Eswatini Competition Commission

Who may lodge a complaint with the Commission?

Any person who believes that he/she has been unfairly treated by any trader. Consumers are advised to try and resolve any dispute regarding their rights as consumers with the trader before they approach the Commission.

A consumer is defined in terms of the Competition Act in Section (2) to include any person:

(a) who purchases or offers to purchase goods, otherwise than for the purpose of resale, but does not include a person who purchases any goods for the purpose of using them in the production and manufacture of any other goods or articles for sale;

(b) to whom a service is rendered;

The right to complain against any business at the Competition Commission where there is a dispute about an items sold or exchanged. This right means that a consumer has the right to speak out even where the consumer suspects that there is unfair consumer treatment.

It is free. The Eswatini Competition Commission is a government parastatal which does not charge consumers for the assistance with complaints.

Cases differ. The ones where the matter is resolved amicably, take about 2 weeks, and the rest anywhere within 90 working days.
