Consumer Protection Department

At the heart of the Eswatini Competition Commission’s mandate is the protection and empowerment of consumers. As the only national institution with a broad consumer protection mandate across all sectors, we work to ensure that consumers are treated fairly and have a voice in the marketplace.

While sector-specific regulators handle consumer issues within their industries, the Commission collaborates with them to strengthen consumer rights and promote overall welfare.

Our Consumer Protection Department is dedicated to:

• Resolving consumer complaints
• Investigating unfair trading practices
• Educating both consumers and traders on their rights and responsibilities
• Providing expert advice and guidance on consumer issues
• Advocating for stronger consumer protection laws and policies

We recognize that the relationship between businesses and consumers is often imbalanced—tilted in favour of traders. That is why our department is focused on restoring fairness, promoting accountability, and giving consumers the confidence to make informed choices.

Backed by the Competition Act, 2007, Fair Trading Act, 2001, and other key laws such as the Consumer Credit Act, 2016, we are committed to enforcing consumer rights across sectors.

The department also engages in international partnerships, sharing best practices and learning from global efforts to protect consumer rights.

At the ESCC, we believe every consumer deserves respect, transparency, and fair treatment.
