The discussions focused on how both institutions can work together to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the Eswatini economy as the world rapidly advances into the digital era. With digital markets and artificial intelligence continuing to reshape industries globally, regulators are increasingly required to navigate complex and evolving competition and consumer protection challenges.

ESCC’s Advocacy & Communications Manager, Mancoba Mabuza, explained how excited they were about the engagement and potential partnership with the university’s AI Academy.

“It was an engaging and forward-looking meeting, and we look forward to a strong partnership that will help promote fair competition and consumer protection in Eswatini,” Mabuza said.

Mabuza highlighted how AI was becoming increasingly important for competition and consumer protection regulators as it is transforming the way businesses operate, consumers interact with markets, and data is collected and used.

During the engagement, University of Eswatini AI Academy Head, Professor Sandile Motsa, stated that the institution’s role is to build capacity and ensure that no one is left behind in embracing AI, as the technology has already arrived and is rapidly redefining how things are done.
