Eswatini Competition Commission

On 18 March 2026, the Eswatini Competition Commission (ESCC) conducted a Compliance Training Workshop for Swaziland Building Society Management. The session brought together various departments within the ESCC, including the Cartels and Enforcement, Mergers and Acquisitions, Advocacy and Communications and Consumer Protection.

The training formed part of the ESCC’s mandate to promote awareness, encourage compliance with competition and consumer protection laws. It is part of the ESCC’s proactive efforts to engage stakeholders and help them become more compliant with the law. A significant portion of the training focused on the importance of competitive markets. The session also provided practical guidance on how organizations can identify, prevent and address compliance risks. By equipping stakeholders with this knowledge, ESCC trying to minimise violations that later negatively impact the organizations.

Participants were also informed about the risks and consequences of anti-competitive practices such as price fixing, market allocation and abuse of dominance. The facilitators further provided insights into the laws governing consumer rights in Eswatini and emphasized the importance of transparency and fair treatment in business practices.
The training also included understanding of mergers and acquisitions. Emphasis was placed on the legal requirement for organizations intending to merge to notify the ESCC. Participants were cautioned that failure to comply with notification requirements may result in penalties.
