On 19 March 2026, the Eswatini Competition Commission (ESCC) commemorated World Consumer Rights Day under the global theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers”. The event was held at Motjane Inkhundla, bringing the message and knowledge of consumer protection directly to the community.
The commemoration formed part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities, particularly in ensuring that products in the marketplace are safe and meet the required standard.
The event was a collaboration between the Commission and the Ombudsman of Financial Services (OFS), Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE), and Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM).
Delivering his keynote address, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Honourable
Minister Manqoba Khumalo expressed his appreciation that the commemoration took place
within a community setting rather than being confined to urban centres. He noted that this
approach reflects government’s dedication to inclusivity and ensuring that all citizens of
Eswatini are actively engaged in national development initiatives and activities. “Today’s
event is particularly significant because it takes place at community level, here at Motjane
Inkhundla. This is not accidental. It is deliberate. Government believes that services,
information, and opportunities must reach the people where they live, not only in urban
centres” he said.
